The Sounds of Advice #106: For the Sake of Kindness

Image
If you do a good deed in order to feel good about it, is it kindness or business? Does it matter either way? Kate: Both? I think if you do it for the wrong reasons, it does lose some of the meaning behind it, but to the person on the receiving end, it might mean the world to them. One should never do good things out of reasons that aren't pure.  Sandy:  I do it because I want to. I don't ever feel I have to or that it is anyway business related. I care a lot about others and so I always try to be nice to others because we really don't know what is going on behind closed doors. So to speak. Michaelle:  Facebook Weighs in: Doesn’t matter but I do then mostly out of kindness -Jenn W. A person should just always try to be kind. It shouldn't be bout business or making yourself feel better. Be kind because it's the right thing to do. Making someone else's day. And if it makes you feel good bout yourself, then it's a blessing -Colleen R. ...

RAK: The Good Cards

Image
Pawel and Dorota originally met by chance at a Business Networking Conference, after Pawel had made the decision to leave the financial world, and Dorota had recently graduated from the University of Economics in Poznan. Dorota was also currently working for a Polish start up company, and Pawel was preparing to organise his Dreamers event and crowdfunding campaign for the 5 Pieces of Advice project (an initiative that would help spread collective wisdom between different demographics across the world). As the two began to talk, they realised that they both shared the same aspirations and dreams to make the world a better and more loving place. From that moment, both with a passion for business as well as social good, Dorota began helping Pawel with the 5 Pieces of Advice project. Pawel knew that he needed to find a way to engage more people into collecting knowledge and doing good things around the world. He wanted to make 5 Pieces of Advice bigger and more engaging, and after ...

The Sounds of Advice #61: Random Acts of Kindness

Sandy:  I was in a pretty bad car accident in 2015. My best friend and tons of others, sent things for me. It was very overwhelming when I opened the box. It is something I am and always will be grateful for. Aisling:  About a year ago there was a house that caught fire here in town. Everyone got out safely thankfully but the people that lived there lost literally everything they owned. One of their family members started a fundraiser to help them raise money to help them get by and people also donated clothes and other necessities to them as well. Michaelle:  Fourth of July this year, we scrounged up our change to take an unexpected road trip to family a little over an hour away. When we got to the gas station, I took our change into the clerk. I told her I had change to pay for some gas. She was very sweet, took the change and then looked in the change container left by others. She found double the amount I had given her and added it to our amount! I thanked...

The Sounds of Advice #43: Brighten Someone's Day

Image
Small things you can do to brighten someone’s day:  Aisling:  5 ways to help brighten up someone's day.  1. Send someone a card or letter in the mail to let them know you're thinking of them.  2. Hold the door open for someone.  3. Pay for someone's coffee or food. 4. Let someone who has been waiting pull out into traffic ahead of you.  5. Smile Sandy:  You can do anything from opening the door for someone to buying someone lunch. Sometimes even a simple thank you for someone who opens the door for you can help brighten someone's day. We all live in a busy go go go style and a lot of the times we are rude and mean to others. We need to change that so we can make the world better. Kate: There are so many things you can do to brighten someone's day. Here are some of my favorites:  Bake some goodies and bring them to work for your co-workers. Leave “I love you” notes for your partner to find (perhaps his packed lunch or h...

Random Acts of Kindness: An Excerpt

T he D omino E ffect of Kindness By R. H. Ali If people were a little kinder And hearts a little softer, Maybe this world would be a little better For the generations coming a little after. Living in the hustle and bustle With no time to hear the leaves rustle, Everyone is for themselves in this earthly world Which we will all eventually leave behind, if truth be told. All the material things will fade into dust But not the impact we made, or the things we made just; It is our duty to be kind, honest and truthful, And to have a pure heart and mind without being boastful. When our eulogies are being said Commendable acts of kindness is what should be read; We will be remembered by what people see So let’s try to make it a good, kind legacy. Kindness of the heart and soul Is what people should on their parchments scroll, With random acts of kindness which becomes our legacies Without any harm or worry about felonies. A divin...
