Life With Depression #16 - Sandy Ashley

Image
6-23-19 Last night my boyfriend and I had to talk because of some messages he had from a fake profile on FB. Saying crazy stupid shit about me sleeping with a friend at work. Like the shit that was said just sounds so crazy. We don't have solid evidence of who it was but I'm pretty sure of at least 2 people in on it. Thankfully though my boyfriend didn't believe it after we had talked about it. I did wonder how work was going to go though. 6-24-19 So after work I was pretty sure it was the person from last year who threatened me because he was on his phone at times my boyfriend got more messages from this person. Work because of this was very stressful. Even though nothing is going on with this guy at work other then we are friends, I just want the harassment to stop. Like get over it already. You still mad at me for saying you weren't doing your job. Get over your shit, seriously. 6-25-19 After work I went to talk to my bosses boss and ...

Notes of Dreams Writing Prompts

Image
1. Describe an imaginary landscape based on music For this exercise it’s good to pick longer pieces of music that unravel slowly. Imagine the music is describing a landscape: what do you see? Try to move from the bigger picture into the smallest details like the texture of the leaves on a tree. 2. Expand the narrative in a song Take a song with lyrics that contain narrative or introduce a character. Think about how the story is told and sung by the musician. Can you take this story and its character further once the song has finished? This is your chance to keep them living even after their 5 minutes of fame. 3. Free-write to the music This is a great exercise for those writers that have troubles starting with a blank page. Put some music on really loud, close your eyes for a couple of minutes and immerse yourself in the sound. You could focus on your feelings, invent a story to go with the song or try to describe the tones. There are no right or wrong answers – t...

Invisible Illness Spotlight: Suicide

Image
There is no single cause to suicide. It most often occurs when stressors exceed current coping abilities of someone suffering from a mental health condition. Risk Factors and Warning Signs:  What leads to suicide? There’s no single cause for suicide. Suicide most often occurs when stressors and health issues converge to create an experience of hopelessness and despair. Depression is the most common condition associated with suicide, and it is often undiagnosed or untreated. Conditions like depression, anxiety and substance problems, especially when unaddressed, increase risk for suicide. Yet it’s important to note that most people who actively manage their mental health conditions go on to engage in life. Suicide Warning Signs: Something to look out for when concerned that a person may be suicidal is a change in behavior or the presence of entirely new behaviors. This is of sharpest concern if the new or changed behavior is related to a painful event, loss...

The Sounds of Advice #116: Views

Image
Are any of our views truly our own or do we simply inherit them from the environments and societies we live our lives in? Kate: I'd like to think I have my own views, but I think sometimes our environment plays a part in it. We can always change and do better than what is around us though. Gina:   oh, there's so many. Let's go with Ludo, "Anything Can be a weapon if you're holding it right." Life with Depression #15 - Sandy Ashley

6-18-19:   I'm more irritated than depressed, but its a little of both. My boyfriend thinks that I went on a date with a guy from work and I didn't. I just told him my 2 cents of it cause I didn't need more drama at work than I already have to deal with. So it just kinda annoying. Like if I hid the fact all together yeah that would be an issue, but I said who and that we are just friends but he thinks my friend as some other motive. Whatever. 6-21-19: Other than the issues with boyfriend earlier in the week. My week wasn't too bad. Got to go home early (only a few hours at most) from work so extra sleep. Although when I have all my kids, I don't feel I get more sleep. Lol hopefully next week is better though. I hate drama.

Summer Solstice: 8 Things to Know

Image
1) Why do we have a summer solstice, anyway? Okay, most people know this one. Earth orbits around the sun on a tilted axis. (Probably because our planet collided with some other massive object billions of years ago, back when it was still being formed.) So between March and September, Earth’s Northern Hemisphere gets more exposure to direct sunlight over the course of a day. The rest of the year, the Southern Hemisphere gets more. It’s why we have seasons. In the Northern Hemisphere, “peak” sunlight usually occurs on June 20, 21, or 22 of any given year. That’s the summer solstice. By contrast, the Southern Hemisphere reaches peak sunlight on December 21, 22, or 23 and the Northern hits peak darkness — that’s our winter solstice. 2) How many hours of sunlight will I get on the 21st? That depends on where you live. The farther north you are, the more sunlight you’ll see during the solstice. Alaska-based climatologist Brian Brettschneider created this terrific gui...
