Skin Cancer Awareness Month
With over 5 million cases diagnosed in the United States each year, skin cancer is America’s most common cancer. Fortunately, skin cancer is also one of the most preventable forms of cancer. About 90 percent of nonmelanoma skin cancers and 85 percent of melanoma cases are associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. By sharing facts about the dangers of unprotected exposure and encouraging people to check their skin for warning signs, we can and will save lives.
We can’t do this work alone.
In 2020, Skin Cancer Awareness Month takes place amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though many of us are separated, we can still unite against skin cancer, share the facts and help save lives.
You Can Help
#SharetheFacts
YOU are the most important part of Skin Cancer Awareness month! We’ve put together a 2020 toolkit with downloadable images to make it easy for you to post on social media. You can also share skin cancer facts, prevention guidelines and early detection content. Thank you for spreading the word! Get the toolkit.
Create a Fundraiser
Share your passion and become a champion by creating a crowdfunding page. Rally friends, family and coworkers to join you in your commitment and raise funds to support our lifesaving programs. Create your page here.
Spread the Word About The Big See
Skin cancer is the cancer you can SEE. Yet it often goes undetected in the early stages. That’s why we launched The Big See campaign – to empower you to get to know your skin, check yourself in the mirror and keep these three simple words in mind: NEW, CHANGING or UNUSUAL.
Tell Your Story
Have you been affected by skin cancer? We’d love to hear your story. Share with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Or, you can submit your story here. Let’s create a powerful community of healthy skin champions!
Help Us Fund Lifesaving Programs
Make a donation in support of the Foundation. Skin cancer is a relentless disease that strikes one in five people by age 70. Your gift funds crucial skin cancer education programs focusing on early detection and prevention, and research grants that help save lives.
Reach Young People
Sun Smart U provides educators with the resources they need to teach youth how to make sun-safe choices that are vital in preventing skin cancer. We ask that you please share information about this program, which features free lesson plans, with your local school district. We also have a number of educational posters available in our online store. These posters are great to hang in your classroom, community center or workplace.
