Life with Depression #23 - Sandy Ashley

Image
8-30-19: This week wasn't too bad. Had a little bit of overwhelmed, frustration, agitation yesterday when I started my stream, that I ended it 30 mins in. I felt bad but at thought point I couldn't do it. I didn't have the energy for it. I haven't been super down this week, so that is good. I get to play classic WOW with my boyfriend this weekend so that should be fun.

Saint Rosa de Lima Feast Day - Peru

Image
St. Rose of Lima, Spanish Santa Rosa de Lima, original name Isabel Flores de Oliva, (born April 20/30, 1586, Lima, Viceroyalty of Peru [now in Peru]—died August 24, 1617, Lima; canonized April 12, 1671; feast day August 23, formerly August 30), patron saint of Peru and of all South America. St. Rose of Lima was the first person born in the Western Hemisphere to be canonized by the Roman Catholic Church. Born into a noble family, Rosa (the name by which she was always known) was drawn to penitential practices and a spiritual life at a young age. Her mother wanted her to marry and initially refused to allow her daughter to pursue religious life. To deter suitors, Rosa cut off her hair and blistered her skin with hot peppers. The struggle between them lasted 10 years, during which time Rose made a perpetual vow of virginity, taking St. Catherine of Siena as her model. In 1606 her mother relented and allowed Rosa to become a Dominican of the Third Order, though her parents did no...

Life with Depression #22 - Sandy Ashley

8-23-19: So this week was pretty rough. I turned another year older and I was pretty depressed most of the week. It's getting better though slowly. I just am struggling this is week and idk how to make it better. I dont like feeling like this. I don't want to do anything and I get more aggervated easier. I told boyfriend Wednesday night that it was kicking my ass cause I try to do some housework on my day off from streaming, that didn't happen. He just was like how can you be depressed, you have nothing to be depressed about. Unless you are hiding something from me. I was like well idk how to explain it. You either understand cause you deal with it too, understand it because you know about it some or you don't understand at all. That certainly didn't help my mood. Either way, I am pushing through it all the best I can. My charity stream so far I have raised about $50 bucks. Have today for about 3-4 hours as well to try to earn another $50. I hope I can, but I...

Fighting Chance

Image
On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. this equates to more than 10 million women and men per year. Domestic violence isn’t just about being physically abused. It’s also about the emotional and psychological side, too. Come on a journey with others who have experienced domestic violence and are willing to share their stories, to show everyone else out there that they have a chance. Fighting Chance is a book of stories and poetry for those who have dealt with domestic violence and are sharing how they stood up to it and have moved on with their life. It wasn’t easy for most of us. And some of us still may struggle with it, but we want to reach out to others who may be going through something similar and let them know you don’t have to put up with it. Find your voice and fight back. Amazon Goodreads

Second Chance

Image
Every year seven million companion animals enter animal shelters and are later euthanized. Here at Rock and Roll Saved My Soul, we want to help decrease that number. We believe every pet deserves a second chance. This anthology is a collection of stories about rescue animals, strays, and the animals that have saved us. All proceeds benefit Pet Partners. Together we can save lives and help animals everywhere get a second chance. Scott Ryan 5.0 out of 5 stars So sweet! Rock and Roll does save my soul! But this is about the wonderful animals that share our lives, and the various stories here (and poems) made me feel a wide range of emotions; mostly good, but some bittersweet. Penny, we miss you. Celebrated on the third Monday in August, this holiday commemorates the death of José de San Martín. San Martin is regarded as the most important Argentinian founding father, who liberated not only a part of Argentina but also helped liberate Chile and Peru along with O'Higgins and Bolívar. 8-16-19: This week has been rough for me. On a lot of accounts. First I worked my ass off like crazy which has left me physically exhausted. On the other account, I have been grumpy most of this week. My birthday is coming up and I know nothing special will happen and it bugs. The only joy I have found in this is listening to the Jonas Brothers. Which i'm listening to right now as I write this up. I'm honestly just trying to get myself through past my birthday. So I can have things go back to normal. Last night the person spreading rumors at work wasn't there and I got to go help the line. It made me happy that he will hear or see (computer at work) that I was on the line. The joy is so rewarding. Other than that things have been pretty good. My streams on twitch have been really good. Which makes me super happy!

Independence Day - India

Image
Independence Day is annually celebrated on 15 August, as a national holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1947, the UK Parliament passed the Indian Independence Act 1947 transferring legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly. India still retained King George VI as head of state until its transition to full republican constitution. India attained independence following the Independence Movement noted for largely non-violent resistance and civil disobedience led by the Indian National Congress (INC). Independence coincided with the partition of India, in which the British India was divided along religious lines into the Dominions of India and Pakistan; the partition was accompanied by violent riots and mass casualties, and the displacement of nearly 15 million people due to religious violence. On 15 August 1947, the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru raised the Indian national flag above the L...

Eid al-Adha - Islamic

Image
Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عيد الأضحى‎, romanized: ʿīd al-ʾaḍḥā, lit. 'Feast of the Sacrifice', IPA: [ʕiːd ælˈʔɑdˤħæː]), also called the "Festival of the Sacrifice", is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year (the other being Eid al-Fitr), and considered the holier of the two. It honors the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God's command. But, before Abraham could sacrifice his son, God provided a lamb to sacrifice instead. In commemoration of this intervention, an animal is sacrificed and divided into three parts. One share is given to the poor and needy, another is kept for home, and the third is given to relatives. In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah. In the international (Gregorian) calendar, the dates vary from year to year shifting approximately 11 days earlier each year. During Eid al-Adha, distributing meat amongst the people, chant...

National Women's Day - South Africa

Image
National Women's Day is a South African public holiday celebrated annually on 9 August. The day commemorates the 1956 march of approximately 20,000 women to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to petition against the country's pass laws that required South Africans defined as "black" under The Population Registration Act to carry an internal passport, known as a pass, that served to maintain population segregation, control urbanisation, and manage migrant labour during the apartheid era. The first National Women's Day was celebrated on 9 August 1995. In 2006, a reenactment of the march was staged for its 50th anniversary, with many of the 1956 march veterans. On 9 August 1956, more than 20,000 South African women of all races staged a march on the Union Buildings in protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act of 1950, commonly referred to as the "pass laws". The march was led by Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa and Sophia...

Homeland Thanksgiving Day - Croatia

Image
One of the great things about RRSMS is we are all inclusive. And because of that, we like to learn and help others learn about other cultures. So every once in a while you'll see a post about a holiday or celebration from another country.  Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian Defenders (Croatian: Dan pobjede i domovinske zahvalnosti i Dan hrvatskih branitelja) is a public holiday in Croatia that is celebrated annually on 5 August, commemorating the Croatian War of Independence. On that date in 1995 the Croatian Army took the city of Knin during Operation Storm, which brought an end to the Republic of Serbian Krajina, a self-proclaimed Serb entity in Croatia. The main celebration is centered in Knin where there are festivities commemorating the event, beginning with a mass and laying of wreaths in honor of those who died in the war, and continuing with parades and concerts. The event is attended by thousands, including the country's leading...

Invisible Not Imagined

Image
Nearly 1 in 2 Americans (133 million) has a chronic condition. 96% of them live with an illness that is invisible. I don't know when the war started, but I was thrown into it without my consent. It isn't fair, but I have no choice but to fight. But how can I fight back when I don't have any weapons and the enemy is inside me? People with invisible illnesses are fighting a battle everyday, even if you can't see it. This anthology aims to shed some light on these illnesses and show you the strong warriors that are hiding behind them. All proceeds will be donated to Rock the Cause. 7-26-19: This last week has been great..my streaming is going well. Boyfriend and I have been doing good after all the drama stuff. Life is good right now. I'm making money from my Scentsy too. Which is nice. I honestly have no complaints right now at all. 8-2-19: This week wasn't too bad overall. I got a game I love a lot so I been playing that like crazy. So fun. Got time with boyfriend to. Which is nice. Overall my oldest daughter hasn't been too bad. Which is good. Usually she is a huge trouble maker. Things at work with the rumors seemed to have chilled out. Which is also a good thing. Less stress for boyfriend, the person included and myself. Got my nails done today too. They super cute Ninja turtles and they glow in dark. :) Hopefully things continue to go well next week. Only time will tell.
