May Band of the Month: Navdeep Kaur
Navdeep Kaur from Rajasthan,
India, is a Sitar expert and a record holder in Sitar with her name in Guinness
Book of world record. Her story is not an everyday story, but a story of
motivation and inspiration, of believing in ourselves, to keep making efforts
and shining through it all.
Navdeep, once a little girl, who
struggled in hospitals for years as a kid, with almost zero chances of
surviving, survived through everything, with the love and support of her mother
and family, though she lost her fingers in the ordeal. Her mother who is a Sitarist
herself made efforts to make her learn sitar too seeing her interests and
talent. When everyone denied teaching her sitar, Mr. Sudhir Mathur believed in
her and trained her, considering her unrivaled skills. She had to work hard, for
longer hours, but she never let anything come in her way. She was special, so
she needed to make special efforts, and this was a challenge, where she needed
to win for her mother, for her teacher and more than that for her own self.
Finally, everything started
getting in place, she was chosen to play in BHARMNATH, where Shri Shri Ravi
Shankar, Late Vinod Khanna were dazed and overwhelmed with the beautiful talent
like her, and that was the day she got in Guinness Book of the world record,
for her unparalleled Sitar playing skills.
Her concerts are organized in a different
part of the world including India, China, Thailand, Italy and she is a
motivational speaker in several schools and colleges. She has been revered with
several awards and accolades across the country for her achievements. She is a
motivation for all of us.
