Behind Closed Doors Promo

Image
Life in a small town is always the same. Everyone knows everyone else's business. This is the world that Ivy Martin grew up in. Her life was far from perfect. Bullied mercilessly in high school. All she wanted was to leave the town and all the cruel kids behind and start a new life. But when she goes to the annual graduation party things take a turn for the worse. One of her only male friends, Landon takes advantage of her, leaving her feeling dirty and used. College wasn't any different. The kids are just as cruel. Then she meets a man and hopes that her luck had finally changed, but Daven isn't who Ivy thought he was. And before she knows what is happening she's trapped in an abusive relationship with almost no way to escape. Isolated from her friends and family, she has nowhere to turn. This is one woman's story of the devastating heart break that domestic abuse can bring. Amazon:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015JRFTSQ

The Sounds of Advice #49: Finding Balance with an Invisible Illness

Image
Balancing an invisible illness, be it mental or physical, with school or work obligations. Aisling:  It can feel exhausting both physically and mentally to balance an invisible illness with school, work or other obligations. It's best to try and take it day by day. If there are bigger goals that have to be met, try setting smaller goals over time that will eventually lead you to your bigger goals.  Vent when you feel the need to someone that you trust & that tries to help & understand your situation. If things start to feel too overwhelming set aside everything else and take some time for you. Your health is important and you need to take care of yourself first before being able to take care of everything else. Sandy:  I have struggled with depression for many many years myself. Most people wouldn't know this. I have found ways to cope with it, but I also know when I need to see a Dr about it when it gets too bad. At work when it hits me if

The Sounds of Advice #48: Social Bullying

Image
The definition of social bullying: social or covert bullying involves spreading rumors about another person, purposely leaving someone out of an activity or group or embarrassing a person in public. Another form of bullying that falls into this category involves encouraging others to avoid a certain person or group. The topic of today's blog post is about social bullying: how you can combat it and cope with it. Sandy:  We all at some point hear something about ourselves that clearly didn't happen. As adults it can still happen in a work environment. I have dealt with things like this before. The rumor was that I hacked this other co-worker's Facebook. All because she posted something on her fb and her husband saw. Instead of taking the front of what she did she blamed me because I was over at her house the other day helping her with something. Now some people believed her and others didn't. I just shrugged it off because I knew the truth. I had no reaso

The Sounds of Advice #47: Physical Bullying

Image
Physical Bullying. This is any bullying that hurts someone's body or damages their possessions. Stealing, shoving, hitting, fighting, and destroying property all are types of physical bullying. Physical bullying is rarely the first form of bullying that a target will experience. Today's blog post will talk about what you should do if you're being physically bullied and coping mechanisms.  Aisling:  If you are being physically bullied you may feel ashamed & want to hide it from others. Please, don't.  Confide in someone you trust to get the help you need.  Too often people have tried to hide that they are being physically bullied & can later on end up in life threatening situations because of it. Sandy:  My son was physically bullied at school a couple years ago. All because he let the teacher know the kid had his phone out in class. He wasn't able to fight back really because of how the kid had him, but he did go and tell a teacher wh

Instagram Spotlight with Radeyah Ali and Keleigh Grosso

Image
Meet Radeyah Ali and Keleigh Grosso, the faces behind the RRSMS Instagram! I really believe in #RockAndRollSavedMySoul. We are a charitable publishing house and we are constantly looking for ways to support and help minority groups through our published work. I absolutely love helping out with #RRSMS's Instagram account since I use Instagram every single day and I think it's such a strong platform for advertising and getting the word out about our charitable publishing house.  I am an Attorney at law by profession and I have a huge passion for reading. Books mean a great deal to me and my enthusiasm for them fueled me to open my own online bookstore, Scribbles and Quills, and to start my own BookTube Channel on YouTube called 'RadeyahTV'. I also sometimes have a compulsion to write poems, short stories and novels and have been published numerous times under the pen name, R.H.Ali, including in some lovely RRSMS books!  I am a proud Muslim and I&

The Sounds of Advice #46: Verbal Bullying

Image
Verbal bullying is a means of using words in a negative way such as insults, teasing, put downs, etc., to gain power over someone else's life. Many people's lives have been destroyed by verbal abuse at home, in schools and business settings. Aisling:  When it comes to verbal bullying you may feel angry and flustered and want to retaliate verbally as well. Don't, that will give the bully the reaction they are looking for. Talk to someone you trust about it & stay away from the person who is verbally bullying you if possible. Do your best to ignore them. Eventually in most situations they will give up & move on. Sandy:  If you are being verbally bullied. Walk away from the person. They may keep saying things as you do, but go find help and let someone know what happened. So that way things can be handled. If you don't have anyone that can handle it, just make sure the words that are told you that they don't bother you. The less reaction you
